Abstract

As will become clear, 1966 heralded in the era of molecular population genetics with the publication of seminal papers. However, the idea of using some kind of molecular approach to study genetics of populations had been circulating among workers prior to this date, although no truly satisfactory generalized approach was developed. Nevertheless, it is instructive to consider the historical antecedents.
