Summary

Research on liposome-encapsulated antitumor drugs has proceeded at a steady pace during the last decade. Most progress in this field has been in connection with the use of anthracyclines and platinum compounds. It is imperative that an intended therapeutic application of liposomes should be well matched with the liposome behavior in vivo. Aspects of liposome biodistribution relevant to cancer chemotherapy are briefly addressed, followed by a discussion of areas in chemotherapy with a strong rationale for the use of liposomes.
