Abstract
‘Biopharmaceutics may be defined as the study of the influence of formulation on the therapeutic activity of a drug product. Or, it may be defined as the study of the relationship between some of the physical and chemical properties of the drug and its dosage forms and the biological effects observed following the administration of the drug in its various dosage forms… Biopharmaceutics encompasses the study of the relation between the nature and intensity of the biological effects observed in animals and man and the following factors:
-
1.
The nature of the form of the drug (ester, salt, complex etc.);
-
2.
The physical state, particle size and surface area of the drug;
-
3.
Presence and absence of adjuvants with the drug;
-
4.
The type of dosage form in which the drug is administered;
-
5.
The pharmaceutical process (es) used to make the dosage form.’
