Zusammenfassung

1973 nennt man gemeinhin das Geburtsjahr der Gentechnik. Richtig ist, dass in diesem Jahr zum ersten Mal die Rekombination von DNA verschiedener Herkunft und deren Klonierung gelang. Aber die Er­kenntnisse der Jahre vorher, nämlich die Entschlüsselung des geneti­schen Codes, die Entdeckung der Restriktionsenzyme und anderes mehr waren unabdingbare Vorläufer dieses Experimentes. Bereits die von Gregor Mendel aufgestellten Gesetze der Vererbung implizierten, dass allen Organismen ein und derselbe Mechanismus zugrunde liegen muss, denn ebenso wie der genetische Code sind Mendels Gesetze für alle Organismen gültig.
