Soil Conservation Program for Small Farm Operators in Guatemala

Abstract

This paper describes a six-year old program by the Choqui Experimental Station in Guatemala to promote the use of soil conservation techniques in the northwestern part of the country. It discusses the goals of the project, describes the actual training process and finally analyses the success of the work to date.

La Station expérimentale de CHOQUI au Guatemala a débuté il y a 6 ans un programme de conservation des sols pour la partie Nord-ouest du pays. Cette contribution présente les buts du projet, décrit l’effort de vulgarisation et évalue le succès d’un tel projet à ce jour.

Zusammenfassung

In diesem Referat wird ein sechs Jahre dauerndes Programm der Choqui Versuchsstation in Guatemala beschrieben, mit dem Ziel des Gebrauchs von landwirtschaftlichen Praktiken zur Bodenkonservierung im nordwestlichen Teil des Landes. Es werden die Zielsetzungen des Projektes diskutiert sowie die Durchführung des effektiven Ausbildungsganges und die Erfolgsanalyse der Arbeiten bis zum gegenwärtigen Zeitpunkt.
