Abstract

Spin 1/2 motion is studied in high energy electron storage rings, including small imperfections. A simple 2×2 matrix formalism is used, with a perturbative treatment for small perturbations. The spin chromaticity is also derived. Its polarizing and depolarizing effects are reviewed. The two laser techniques, previously proposed in order to polarize high energy electron beams, are examined.
