Abstract

Wood quality research, studying the influence of tree age, genotype and environment on wood properties, should be regarded as an integral part of total forest technology. This total technology should, in turn, encompass all forestry and forest use processes from initial seed selection through to final marketing of forest products. University research is seen as having a vital role to play in these processes.
