Time-Parallel Multigrid Solution of the Navier-Stokes Equations

  • Chapter
Multigrid Methods III

Abstract

We consider the two-dimensional unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. Conventional methods for the solution of this system when discretized by an implicit method such as backward Euler proceed by solving a sequence of problems iteratively. It is shown that despite the sequential nature of this process, several processors may be employed to solve at several time steps simultaneously. Details of the basic multi-grid method and of the smoothing technique are presented and results are given for a simple unsteady model problem.
