Summary and Conclusions

  • Chapter
Seriation by Children

Abstract

This book has been concerned with the seriation ability of four to six year old children. Their behaviour on a number of seriation problems was recorded, transcribed, and analysed, and production systems (PSs) were written to model their performance. These PSs provided a close fit to the original protocols and were consistent with the children’s behaviour on variants of the basic task. An examination of these PSs led to the discussion of various aspects of seriation ability and its development, which we now summarise.
