Abstract

Investigation of the problem of heat transfer to fluids flowing between parallel plates leads to a quadratic eigenvalue problem. The problem can be put into the form A(λ)=λ2 I+λM−L=0 with M a multiplication operator and L a differential operator with compact inverse. Spectral properties of this operator are considered. An iterative scheme is given for computation of the eigenvalues of A(λ) and numerical results are given.
