Abstract
Two nine-point difference approximations to the Laplace operator have been investigated with special attention to the iterative solution of the systems of linear equations. The convergence properties of SOR have been studied, in particular with regard to parameter estimation techniques (choice of optimal relaxation factor). Comparisons have been made with the well-known five-point formula. Numerical results are given.
