Abstract
This chapter describes the treeline phenomenon with a global perspective. It summarizes tree taxa found at treelines worldwide, reasons for regional depressions or advances of treeline position, the global and latitudinal spectrum of treeline elevations, and how scales of space and time matter for treeline structure.
