Abstract
The article describes phenomenon of online encyclopedia popularity in the modern digital society. Online encyclopedias are popular among users. Their sites possess convenient and fast search (simple and advanced), multimedia support (images, videos and photos). Hypertext transitions are convenient for delving into a certain topic. Such sites have various interesting sections for users (forums, contests, news, quizzes, polls, etc.). The article analyzes the role of an online encyclopedia as an important resource for knowledge management and preservation of the cultural heritage of a specific nation, as well as the popularization of knowledge about that nation. The martial law was imposed on the territory of ukraine from february 2022, when the enemy began invasion. In such condition ukrainians found themselves in difficult conditions. There was a threat of physical destruction of the entire nation. Clash of different cultures and their opposition is clearly expressed against the background of military operations. It showed that in russia there is absolutely no culture of waging war, no culture of treatment of prisoners, no culture of the civilian population treatment, no culture of treatment of cultural values. Even the international organization UNESCO urged the attackers not to destroy the cultural objects of ukraine under the protection of this international organization. We emphasize that online encyclopedias are an important resource for presenting and preserving the cultural heritage of the Ukrainian nation. Also functioning of ukrainian online encyclopedias with an english-language version or with possibility of translation is important for popularizing knowledge about ukraine for the general public.
