Abstract

When people think about ethical issues in the media, they usually think about talk shows. There are, however, many other areas of concern as highlighted in the APA Ethics Code. Other areas have to do with remaining alert to the misuse of psychological insights and testing in both the media and courtroom settings. Some psychologists who do not have the necessary credentials will represent themselves in misleading and at times frankly fraudulent manners. The law, in a number of areas, does not take into account the limitations of psychology and allows substandard testimony to be admitted into judicial settings, harming not only the individuals involved but the integrity of psychology as well.
