Data-Centric Business and Applications

Abstract

The paper discusses the challenges in training students as an qualified specialists in the education system, particularly in higher education. It emphasizes the need for modern approaches to address the challenges and the importance of aligning educational programs with national and European standards as well as dynamic updating of programs and standards in accordance with the changing labor market and technological progress. To support the development of high-quality educational programs and ensure compliance with the standards, the paper proposes using modern information technologies, such as graph database technology. Specifically, the paper describes the development and implementation of a graph database in the DBMS environment Neo4j, which models the connections between educational components (disciplines or courses), competencies and learning results by the national academic standards. The graph database helps to analyze the degree of compliance between educational programs and the standards, allows controlling the semantic connection between educational components, competencies and learning results, and, on this basis, provides support for decisions regarding the educational program's adoption or improvement. The paper concludes that the use of graph database technology is essential to support the development of educational programs and ensure their quality and effectiveness in preparing qualified specialists.
