Abstract

This chapter will begin by discussing the main features of postmodern society and the difference between “postmodernity” and “postmodernism.” Immediately after, it introduces De Saussure’s structuralism and Derrida’s poststructuralism.

This chapter will primarily focus on the ideas of six authors: Bell, Baudrillard, Bauman, Maffesoli, Jameson, and Foucault. The text will also include the perspectives of many other theorists, including Ritzer, Giddens, Chomsky, Harvey, Ogburn, Robertson, Albrow, Pieterse, Hannerz, Albrow, Wallerstein, Barber, Toynbee, Hardt and Negri, and Virilio.
