Reprogramming the Brain

Abstract

Here we touch on some of the manic episodes that Ben went through in the days that followed some of his programming sessions. It is a possible side effect of manipulating the subthalamic pathways and so we prepare other patients for this and stress that while it is normal, they and their care team around them must remain vigilant but not overexert themselves to intervene. We end by talking generally about society and self and how DBS may throw some wrinkles into the rules that govern societies.
