Zusammenfassung

Wenn ein Mensch nicht genügend Schlaf bekommt oder dieser gestört ist, sind Schwierigkeiten und ein Scheitern der Selbstkontrolle vorprogrammiert. Diese sind vermutlich auf Veränderungen der Ziele und auf Versuchungen zurückzuführen, die einen Konflikt in der Selbstkontrolle charakterisieren, sowie auf eine Verschlechterung der zugrunde liegenden kognitiven und emotionalen Faktoren, welche die Ausübung von Selbstkontrolle unterstützen. Während Schlaf ein Schlüsselfaktor für die Selbstkontrolle ist, ist Selbstkontrolle auch entscheidend für einen gesunden Schlaf. Selbstkontrolle ist oft notwendig, um nächtliche Ablenkungen und Versuchungen zu vermeiden, die das Zubettgehen verzögern, und um aufregende Emotionen herunterzuregulieren, die das Ein- und Durchschlafen erschweren. Das Zusammenführen dieser unterschiedlichen Forschungsbereiche legt nahe, dass Schlaf und Selbstkontrolle in einer wechselseitigen Beziehung miteinander stehen. Das Verständnis dieser Dynamik kann weitere Einblicke in Schlaf und Selbstkontrolle bieten.
