WAIMH Handbook of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health

Abstract

Under the influences of both Chinese and Western cultures, parenting practices in Hong Kong have been undergoing generational shifts. This chapter describes the Hong Kong child health policy trend and the collaborative effort to promote IMH in the local community, with the establishment of the Hong Kong Association of Infant Mental Health Limited being one of the concerted works. With more training opportunities introduced to Hong Kong, there are budding IMH practices and research in the clinical and community populations.

Notes

  1. 1.

A double-blind validation study was conducted in 4 MCHCs on 12-, 18-, and 24-month Developmental Surveillance Questionnaires. Validation was done by medical doctors using the Schedule of Growing Skill II as the gold standard. Both sensitivity and specificity were above 80% (S.Yau, personal communication, March 21, 2023).

  2. 2.

The other 7 DSQs covering 2, 4, 9, 24, 36, 48, or 60 months of age may be done when closer monitoring of a child’s development is deemed necessary.
