Abstract

Here we discuss best practices for conducting medical education research, using Glassick’s Criteria as a framework. Building on Edward Boyer’s landmark 1990 publication, Scholarship Reconsidered, that expanded the definition of education scholarship, Glassick and colleagues proposed a set of six standards by which scholarship may be assessed: clear goals, adequate preparation, appropriate methods, significant results, effective presentation, and reflective critique. In this chapter, we use these same six standards as a guide for education research.
