Abstract
The chapter examines the technologies, techniques and production procedures that provide fibers from basaltic rocks. The type of fiber to be obtained, discontinuous or continuous, guides the choice of production set-up. Since the production process involves heating rock material at high temperature until the material can be spun, there are many similarities with the production of glass fiber, so for the purpose of a better understanding of the material, a comparison between the two types of fibers is given. The last part of the chapter deals with surface coatings, a very important step in the manufacturing process that can affect the final properties of the semi-finished product.
