Abstract
Interpretation of computed tomography (CT) of the pelvis performed for patients after trauma should include evaluation of the osseous and articular structures for fractures, malalignment, or other associated soft tissue abnormalities. Identification of bone and joint injury is important given the possible association with significant complication, morbidity and mortality. The focus of this chapter is primarily centered on review of bony pelvis injury patterns seen in the trauma setting. At the beginning of this chapter, the CT imaging techniques used at our hospital will be briefly introduced, followed by a review of the pertinent anatomy of the bones, joints, and ligaments of the pelvis. Injuries of the bony pelvis will then be discussed, including pelvic ring injury, acetabular fractures, hip dislocation, femoral fractures, and sacral fractures. Example CT images of various traumatic injuries will be reviewed.
