Abstract
Sustainable growth relies on educational development. Obama (Remarks by the President on College Affordability – Buffalo, NY. Office of the Press Secretary. State University of New York Buffalo Buffalo, New York, 2013) said that families have made sacrifices because they understand that education is more important in a knowledge-based economy in the face of greater global competition. Nevertheless, millions of children in Africa are out of school, many walk up to five kilometres to school, and there are inadequate educational facilities and infrastructure. Analogously, corruption in education is terrible. An Igbo proverb says, “Ugo chara acha adighi echu echu” (A mature eagle feather will ever remain pure), which means a well-trained person stands the test of time. UNDP (Human Development Report: International Cooperation at a Crossroads: Aid Trade and Security in an Unequal World, New York. https://hdr.undp.org/content/human-development-report-2005. Accessed 16 July 2011, 2005) states that education is one of the building blocks of human development; it should be a fundamental right, a foundation for progress, health, nutrition, and the development of institutions and democracy.
