Abstract

International trade is considered as the engine of economic growth for developing countries like Bangladesh. Bangladesh has produced sustained high economic growth in the past two decades thanks to export and remittance growth. However, there are particular challenges ahead. The import growth rate of Bangladesh remained equally higher, resulting in the continuous trade deficit. The country’s growing trade deficit with India and China poses to be alarming. Geo-political issues like Brexit and the US-China trade war are also likely to change the status quo in trade relationships and trade patterns. The country, therefore, needs to redesign its trade and macroeconomic policies carefully.
