Climate Crisis: Adaptive Approaches and Sustainability

Abstract

Global warming has emerged as a major global threat after industrialization and has become more prominent in recent years. The increase in temperature is a result of enhanced greenhouse gas emissions, which are generated from natural and anthropogenic sources. This can trigger a vigorous hydrological cycle, enhancing extreme weather events and causing severe losses to human beings and the environment. Therefore, this chapter describes the evidence, causes, and consequences of climate change while also seeking suitable adaptation and mitigation strategies from a sustainable socio-economic and environmental perspective. Soil has been identified as one of the major realms that can ameliorate the adverse effects of climate change and help fulfill global food security. Site-specific adaptation and mitigation measures at the watershed level would be more suitable for achieving climate resilience with the aid of the global SDG framework.
