Abstract

The most common and serious medical considerations for adaptive athletes in each of the six categories are reviewed in this chapter. Although there are some similarities, each of the six categories (spinal cord injury, amputees/limb-deficient athletes, cerebral palsy, visual impairment, intellectual impairment, and les autres) of adaptive athletes exhibits unique predisposing factors to common and life-threatening medical problems [1]. The presenting symptoms and signs are explained in addition to treatment and recommendations for participation.
