Abstract
Degenerative mitral valve disease is a common cardiac lesion. Presentation is most commonly in late middle and old age. As the name suggests, it is a result of the wear and tear generated through decades of high-pressure stress on valve leaflets malformed to carry the load. This will become clear when the anatomy of the valve is considered.
