Abstract

Some schools of thought believe that AI could present a profound change in the history of life on Earth, on the one hand allowing humanity to transcend to a higher level, on the other, leading to our collective downfall. Which view, if either, is correct, and why? If it is the latter, what can we do about it? What does AI actually mean? Are we heading, as yet another school of thought believes, into another AI Winter during which progress will grind to a halt via unrecognised or unsolvable contradictions? What does the whole story have to do with truth? And what might TRIZ be able to contribute to that story?
