Abstract
Water transparency means the number of particles present in the water column. These particles can be sediment, organic matter, or algae from land erosion and/or in-situ production. The relationship between particles present in the water column and water transparency is the more particles – the less water transparency. Moreover, the water is cloudy or murky and comprehends a lot of particles, the light cannot penetrate as deeply into the water column. This chapter provides us with a brief description of water transparency. Water transparency is the most basic water quality. It also describes the different parameters of water transparency such as turbidity, Secchi depth, euphotic depth, photosynthetic active radiation (PAR), etc.
