Abstract

Water is an excellent solvent and therefore it helps in the transportation of ions and molecules required for photosynthesis or metabolism processes. Moreover, the fundamental importance of water for life has influenced humanity at all times. This includes its essential function for life. Its occurrence, availability, properties, and behavior, however, have become almost self-evident for us. However, it is our responsibility to explain its sustainable usage to the common people. To describe the sustainable use of water, we must know about the physical and chemical properties of water. This chapter only provides us with this topic. It provides us with a short description and measurement technique of water temperature, density, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), suspended particulate matter (SPM), hardness, alkalinity, and chloride of water.
