Abstract
In the past decade, power electronics has steadily emerged as one of the most popular specializations in electrical engineering displacing others such as power systems, high voltage systems, and switchgear and protection. This has given the power electronics industry some hope as among those students who choose to continue in core electrical, the majority choose to become power electronics engineers. However, this statistic pales in front of the statistic that shows the exodus of engineers from the hard engineering domains such as electrical, mechanical, chemical and civil towards Information Technology (IT), software and many other soft engineering domains. Taking into consideration that the software domain has not at all come close to saturation, but rather has been continuously growing in its demands for young engineers as global business goes completely digital, the power industry in general has been growing increasingly nervous.
