Green Circular Economy

Abstract

The economic model that governs our society is linear and unidirectional, in which natural resources are extracted from the environment, to later be used as raw material for various products that will be consumed and finally discarded. The premise of this model based on “extract-produce-use-dispose” was that resources are abundant, easily accessible, and their management as waste is very economical. However, it has been observed that the dynamics of this system is unsustainable or unfeasible in the distant term both due to the limited lifetime of the goods, and due to the great demand for resources that in many cases are scarce and the pollution generated by the immense amount of waste generated. However, the shift from the conventional model to a new circular economy model requires to overcome different obstacles at social, political, economic, and legislative levels, among others. To this end, we need to define the main challenges that will let us to achieve a more sustainable model.
