Health Determinants in the Era of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): An Overview

Population, Sanitation and Health

Abstract

Even though some worldwide and many national Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) have not been reached, significant success has been made in lowering mother and infant deaths and combating contagious illnesses. The unparalleled achievement allows for even more ambitious goals for 2030, though the remaining agenda items must be handled first. Noncommunicable diseases, mental health problems, and global disparity are all on the rise but were left out of the MDGs despite being major threats to public health. A new global plan, the 17 SDGs cover all aspects of human effort in social, economic, and natural sustainability. We must consider the world, its inhabitants, harmony, wealth, and cooperation to achieve these goals.

Since the year 2000, we have made great strides forward. Still, we stand to lose footing if we become complacent in making the world a better place for all. The assistance of national governments and development allies is crucial to realizing this goal, so we must focus our efforts carefully and set measurable targets. The other 13 health objectives may be accomplished by achieving Universal Health Care (UHC) first. We believe that the UHC should not be viewed as merely another health-related objective but rather as the central tenet upon which the complete health development plan rests, giving the firm foundation to build and accomplish every other health-related goal. We can set objectives and evaluate our performance with a standardized method for keeping tabs on it. Where I sit? This is the optimal next step. It is the first of a succession of initiatives aimed at preparing WHO to contribute to the complete execution of the SDG health plan. The findings of this study could mark a turning point. Secondary data were collected from different sources and used extensively in this study. Policymakers, managers, and administrators could use this research as a watershed moment.
