Unmet Needs in Drug Treatment of Heart Failure in Hypertension

Hypertension and Heart Failure

Abstract

In this chapter, we will review some of the new/missing issues concerning heart failure and hypertension. Since hypertension is almost a constant condition associated with heart failure, this review will cover heart failure as a whole. Based on modern understanding of pathophysiology, we will review recent advances in pharmacotherapy, both for heart failure with reduced and preserved ejection fractions. We will see how to prevent heart failure in hypertension and which populations to target. Finally, we will explore potential improvements in drug escalation and titration based on biomarkers.
