Abstract

This chapter outlines a systematic way to examine the lumbar spine and provides a simple examination checklist. Topics covered include observation of the patient, gait analysis, range of motion, testing for square pelvis and chest expansion. Illustrated instructions for a comprehensive range of other tests are also given. For example the straight leg raising test, Patrick’s test, the thigh thrust test and Gaenslen’s test.
