Abstract

Histopathology provides the basis for breast patient management and prognosis and requires careful examination of well-processed material by trained pathologists. They will assess the material provided to them, either cytology samples, biopsy specimens or surgical excision material, and will provide not only diagnosis, but a large quantity of clinically important information for each case. Whilst there is a wide range of potential breast lesion diagnoses, this chapter will address those entities regarded as ‘high-risk’, pre-invasive (precursors) of invasive breast cancer and also diagnosis and prognostic and predictive factors for invasive breast cancer.
