Toward Inclusive Learning Design

Abstract

Three-dimensional virtual worlds (3D VWs) may appear to offer little to people with visual disabilities because high fidelity presentation is concentrated primarily on visual accuracy (Cobb and Sharkey (IJVR, 6:51–68, 2007)). This chapter describes a project that seeks to bring awareness to the need for audio description and other audio supports in 3D virtual spaces and to use participatory design approaches to develop best practices for creating these supports to provide access for blind and visually impaired students.
