Abstract

The application of magnet attachments in dentistry has been attempted to enhance the stability of the denture by the repulsive force of a magnet placed at both sides of complete dentures since 1930. Magnet attachments are used to ensure denture stabilization in patients with advanced alveolar bone resorption. Magnetic systems are comprised of a Cobalt-Samarium (Co5Sm) magnet integrated into the denture base and a “keeper” made of Platinum-Cobalt-Nickel alloy positioned on the root, which can be magnetized. The author did not use and preferred this system routinely.
