We present a dialog between a philosopher and a theoretical physicist on some aspects of the historical and conceptual foundations of gravitational theories, in particular the equivalence principle, the relation between gravity/geometry, the ontological nature of space–time, and some relevant aspects of the historical development of the concept of action at distance and locality.
