Résumé
L’obésité est une maladie chronique, progressive et récidivante qui a un impact négatif sur la santé et la qualité de vie et qui réduit l’espérance de vie. Elle a de graves conséquences sur la santé des personnes touchées et de leur progéniture. Le développement et la persistance de l’obésité sont le résultat d’une interaction complexe de facteurs génétiques et environnementaux. Lorsqu’elle n’est pas traitée, l’obésité s’aggrave. Bon nombre des pathologies que les cliniciens traitent couramment sont des complications de l’obésité, d’où la nécessité de s’y attaquer en premier lieu. Un traitement fondé sur des données probantes, individualisé et centré sur le patient, améliore la santé et la qualité de vie.
