Abstract
Semiotics is the science involved in the study of signs and their meaning. The biosemiotic perspective considers that the essence of the vital processes relies upon the continuous flow of information between biological and biosemiotic spaces. This constant bidirectional nature makes all levels of biological complexities (from cells to tissues to organs) not only communicators but the product itself of all the dialogues occurring in the organism as a whole. Further developing and understanding the crosstalk perspective will enable scientists to understand how each biological layer is modified in pathogenesis, and hence move from modern medicine (effect medicine) to future medicine (process medicine).
