Rethinking Hybrid and Remote Work in Higher Education

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically increased worldwide education technology levels in terms of delivering knowledge. Since March 2020, both students and teachers have adopted digital transformation and therefore created a new workforce that is more digitally literate and tech savvy. This chapter contributes to the need for technical and digital skills to survive in the post-COVID era as blended learning will become the new normal. The study seeks to examine how and to what extent online teaching and learning fostered self-directed learning (SDL) skills in Hong Kong teaching-focused higher education institutions, especially the digital transformation of hybrid and remote learning, in upcoming uncertain global pandemic situations in post-COVID times.
