Abstract
Due to the various sizes, shapes, and types of threads available, thread procedures allow for versatility and creativity. There are five main classes of threads. They include monothreads, spring threads, mesh threads, barbed threads, and nose threads. In addition, each of the different types of threads can be composed of different materials. The main composition of threads on the market in the United States is Polydioxanone. However, in other countries, there are threads that are composed of Polycaprolactone and Poly-l-lactic acid that are available as well. The differences between the classes of threads and between the compositions will be discussed in this chapter. Photos are included that show magnified details of the different types of threads.
