Abstract
PDO Mono threads can be placed in the skin of the thigh regions such as the inner thigh to decrease laxity, reduce fat and cellulite. Although large amounts of fat are not eliminated, moderate fat loss with skin tightening can be achieved. In order to achieve greater fat loss, barbed threads may be used since doing so provides the option to use threads that are thicker than the mono threads. The thickest mono threads available are 23 Gauge which is the mono thread recommended for this area. However, since barbed threads come in thicker sizes such as 21, 19, and 18 Gauge, if the skin is thick enough with significant fatty tissue, then the barbed threads may provide a more significant improvement. The procedure described in this chapter is for mono threads that are 23 G, however, barbed threads may be used as well. If barbed threads are used, it is not necessary to pull tightly as this will cause discomfort and generally the barbs will not maintain hold well against the body’s movement. The threads may simply be inserted without performing an approximation manuever. The collagen stimulation will be sufficient. Multiple treatments will produce better results. This chapter will provide step-by-step instruction on how to perform the procedure to treat laxity of the skin on the thighs with PDO threads. The method of anesthesia and specification of thread sizes will be provided. The pattern of thread placement will be illustrated. Tips on technique for insertion will also be described.
