Abstract
Mono PDO threads to tighten the skin in the submental neck region can be used but is recommended only if there is only minimal to mild laxity of skin in this area. The barbed or cog threads are much better to tighten the submental skin. However, some patients do not wish to undergo a barbed thread procedure in which case mono threads may be offered but patient selection must be done carefully and realistic results must be conveyed. It is possible to get improvement in younger patients with minimal laxity. Older patients with significant laxity, however, may be disappointed with the results and will need treatment with barbed threads instead. At least three sessions 1 month apart are recommended for optimal improvement with mono threads. This chapter will provide step-by-step instruction on how to perform the procedure to treat submental neck laxity with mono PDO threads. The method of anesthesia and specification of thread sizes will be provided. The pattern of thread placement will be illustrated. Tips on technique for insertion will also be described.
