Abstract
Mono PDO threads can be used to tighten the skin of the jowls in patients with mild aging related skin laxity. Patient selection must be done carefully to avoid having a disappointed patient. It is recommended to reserve this procedure for younger patients or patients who need preparation of improved thickness in the skin in order to achieve a better result from an ensuing barbed thread procedure. For all other patients, barbed threads provide a more dramatic improvement in laxity due to repositioning as well as collagen stimulation compared to mono threads. However, mono threads may be useful in patients who are reticent to undergo the procedure with the barbed threads due to fear and discomfort inherent in the recovery period. A better result from the mono threads can be obtained with treatments repeated three times, 1 month apart. This chapter will provide step-by-step instruction on how to perform the treatment of jowls region with mono threads. Method of anesthesia and pattern of placement will be illustrated. Specification of sizes of threads and tips on insertion to limit complications will be provided.
