Abstract
The tear trough or undereye region becomes significantly altered due to the aging process and is often referred to as “undereye bags.” Hollowing of this area occurs with the loss of fat. Laxity occurs due to thinning of the skin with loss of collagen. Mesh PDO threads can be utilized to remedy the signs of aging in the undereye region and can do so in a manner that is superior to filler injection. Filler in the undereye region is notorious for complications including puffiness, irregularity, and migration. PDO threads, however, work by stimulating collagen. Thus, they create a natural correction and avoid these complications altogether. In fact, the threads build enough collagen to add volume to correct hollowing. In addition, the threads promote skin tightening by stimulating collagen to a very large degree. This procedure can also be used to help improve volume in the anterior cheek area. This chapter will outline in detail instruction on how to perform the procedure, which threads to use, location of insertion, and tips on technique. The Instructional Video included with this textbook will provide a demonstration of this thread procedure on a patient. There are also photos included that illustrate the effect after the procedure (Fig. 14.2 and 14.3).
