Abstract
Despite frequent references to “population health” in the healthcare literature there is considerable confusion over its actual definition. Different people use the term in different ways adding to the confusion. This chapter provides a definitive description of the population health concept (what it is and is not), reviews its origins in public health and social epidemiology, and seeks to put parameters around the population health “movement”.
