Abstract

Due to their outstanding capabilities and wide range of potential applications, Wireless Sensor Networks have received more attention. Routing is very challenging task in wireless sensor networks, as packets are routed to the BS through a number of nodes. The lifetime of WSNs is extremely restricted. Wireless sensor network is a resource constrained network where reducing energy consumption is very crucial in order to enhance the network lifetime. It is important to share the network packet in an energy-efficient way. It also considers the residual power of battery to extend the life of the network. Energy conservation is very crucial for Wireless Sensor Networks. In this paper, we have surveyed various existing energy efficient routing approaches with their merits and demerits. We have also discussed some open research issues that will help researchers for further investigation in this field.
