Zusammenfassung
Dieses Kapitel bietet einen kritischen Einblick in die komplexe Position des multikulturellen Romans im einundzwanzigsten Jahrhundert. Jahrhundert. Indem er die Art und Weise untersucht, wie der Multikulturalismus den zeitgenössischen britischen Roman verjüngt hat, lenkt Shaw die Aufmerksamkeit auch auf die Art und Weise, wie die Verlage bestimmte Autoren auf dem literarischen Markt zu kommerziellen Zwecken positionieren. Anhand der Werke von Schlüsselfiguren wie Zadie Smith, Monica Ali, Hari Kunzru und Jhumpa Lahiri zeigt Shaw auf, dass die Vermarktung multikultureller Romane nach wie vor mit einem Gefühl der Marginalisierung verbunden ist, das die Wahrnehmung und das Lesen literarischer Texte einschränkt. Das Kapitel schließt mit dem Hinweis auf den einzigartigen Wert des Romans als Antwort auf eine zunehmend zerrissene sozio-politische Landschaft und auf die Möglichkeit, diese zu mildern.
